• How much cleavage is too much to show

  How much cleavage is the right amount to show and how much cleavage is too much to show? I’m in a predicament at the moment. As some of you know, I’ve had cup issues with spiderman Halloween costumes. I have an upcoming performance and I have a costume that I would like to wear. It looks wonderful on me, except I have a cleavage issue. The bra cups are a tad too small. At least I think they are. Every other part of the costume fits well, it’s just the cups.
  I do have another bra and belt set, where the cups fit better, but it isn’t as nice looking. Since I’m dancing with other girls, we have matching sets. The smaller, good looking set is a low cut bra with plenty of declotee showing with the breasts sort of popping out of the top (hard cup Egyptian style) and the not so good looking set has cups that are angled differently and they are a little bigger (also hard cup Egyptian style). Would you dare to perform in the smaller cup which looks great on you or would you go with the bigger cups and not be quite as dazzling?
  Indeed, if the bras fill their function and you are not scared of any trouble in that department (something falling out or slipping down), then go for the bra that makes you feel more comfortable. Feeling “Comfortable” in my scale of importance scores a bit more than feeling “fabulous”. If you’re afraid that the smaller bra is too revealing and you wouldn’t feel confident enough wearing Avatar Neytiri Costume, I have to sugestions that I’ve used myself… One is to stitch a suitable ribbon to the upper edge of the bra cup. It can be in the same colour of the base of your costume or serve as an additional decoration piece. Secondly – wear a big necklace. I have a triangular coin necklace that really gives the image of covering up. I hope my two cents will help you figure out what to wear.

• Where to find fabrics non-stretch sequin trim

  Fringing, chiffons, motifs, silver or gold lurex thread for in overlocker, really hard to find in New Zealand especially enough to make 3 or so lycra zentai at a time. Any old beaded belts for recycling? I live at the bum end of the world, pity me. There’s bugger all shopping down here. That’s why I love the internet, although I don’t know what your s&h charges would be for Aoteoroa (hope I spelled right). I also hear that scouring thrift stores for old evening, prom, and bridesmaid’s dresses is a good way to get glitzy fabrics for reconstruction.
  I don’t know if you have what Babylonia calls thrift shops (charity shops in the UK) – old evening dresses and large sizes of purple lycra bodysuit and tops can be a great source of fabric and trim, often in more interesting colors than you can buy by the meter, and very cheap. You do have to rummage through the dross though, and risk getting addicted to checking them out every time you go past just in case there’s something useful…
  Otherwise: Internet! eBay can be very useful. I’ve ordered trims and coins from the USA when I couldn’t find what I wanted locally. Not so keen on buying fabric though as IMO you need to have a feel of it first. For the lighter items that can be stuffed in an envelope it shouldn’t cost much to post – you could get yards of those unstretchy strung sequins in a big padded envelope. Airmail from the USA to the UK is very reasonable so I don’t see why it should be that much more to NZ (but always check the postage before bidding though, some people charge excessive P&P). Surface mail is really cheap, but it takes forever.
  There are also bellydance sites that sell stuff like the long heavy beaded fringing. I’ve no experience of any of these but imagine the postage would be quite a lot! And if you can’t find a belt for recycling, making a belt base isn’t too difficult (not compared to covering a bra. Actually most things aren’t too difficult compared to covering a bra…). • How to make fabric appear wet

  This year I plan on being a drowning victim/ghost. It’s mostly makeup (corpsy, algae effects, etc) but I’m making zentai suits that will basically be a dress with underwater plants attached, possibly also net/and other underwater items. So, I’m wondering if anyone has any tips on how to make fabric appear wet without using water since that would be rather chilly.
  You could also use clear polyurethane. Get the high gloss stuff. It might make your dress a little stiff, but it should remain flexible. Try it out on some scrap fabric first, to see if you can tolerate it. Also, for a more realistic effect you’re going to want the dress to appear heavy and cling to you as would someone’s yellow lycra suit if they were pulled out of the water. I second the clear caulk that was suggested earlier, but get the latex kind. It’s much easier to work with, it goes on white but drys clear. Use it to create runs and drips.
  I’m not costume mandatory party this year so wasn’t planning a costume but I started to get the sewing itch so I made a corset out of Halloween themed fabric. Then of course I need a skirt to go with it so I made one out of pumpkin fabric and today I just made a short sleeved peasant blouse to go under the corset. And my husband bought me a purple hat to match. I have no idea what I am but I should probably come up with something for when people ask. i don’t know what it is but i love it!!! Great job on all the things you made – have you got a picture in full with everything on so we can see it all together? The hat has a pimp like feel to it so maybe something along those lines? Halloween pimp? Get a cane to go with it – I think these calls for boots of some kind – you could probably decorate them to match what you have made so far.

• What types of measurements with your full suit

  I was wondering what types of measurements that you should send with an order so that they can make the best fitting full-suit possible. Or if it just depends on who is making in the men latex catsuit.
  It depends on the people making it. If they have developed their own pattern they will base it on a certain measurement and then add or remove a fraction of your size difference to create a custom fit. Some need more than others but most are measured in a specific way.
  I have seen some differences though – the inside leg is usually measured from the crotch to the floor when standing but some need the crotch to the ankle bone – you must know exactly what is required and ask if you’re not sure. For instance the shoulder width could be from the outside to the outside or it could be to the tips of the shoulder bones. Even then you aren’t guaranteed a perfect fit – I know Andy had problems with a couple of his suits from one maker, and I ordered two at the same time from one maker and one suit was an excellent fit but the other was a bit tighter.
  The first suit has UCI champion stripes and is probably one of only a couple made (they only make them for current champs or ones likely to become champs). I doubt you’ll chance upon seeing one of those for sale anywhere. He has a jersey over the top in those photos, but on his site there are various photos of the same purple lycra bodysuit and others. You might try sending him an email saying you are a collector and would like to buy one. Offer a good price and if he has a few spares of no sentimental value you might get lucky. The Rabobank suits are easier to get hold of though, they are issued to road and cyclocross teams. I have seen various designs on ebay every now and then, but only on ebay.de really. Unfortunately I think they are quite sought after so it won’t be cheap.

• How people negative reaction to lycra

  As we’re talking about how people react to pvc catsuits in “What (not) to wear in the pool?” I wanted to tell about a situation when people did react in an unfriendly manner to me. When I go out for a run, I always wear dog zentai suit and sometimes wear singlets or even fullbody suits but I’ve never had a negative reaction. I wear bike shorts in the streets for no apparent reason and lycra tops to jeans — and I’ve never received any negative feedback.
  However, it was curious for me that when I once wore those shiny nylon adidas shorts people were staring at me and talking about me. Someone started to talk about gay people near me (it was a train station), and I felt quite bad because it wasn’t even a fetish of mine. (Actually, I wanted to prevent my legs from being tanned only in lower regions as usually happens beacuse I wear bike shorts…) After that, I had the impression that people in big cities do stare at people in unusual clothes, but it doesn’t seem to be lycra.
  hat does seem odd. You mean running shorts, right? Maybe when you wear your lycra you look like you are doing or have just done some sport (even when you wear your bike shorts “for no reason” people probably assume you’ve just cycled in from somewhere). But perhaps when you were wearing those shorts, you didn’t look like you’d been running? I know lots of people say lycra looks “gay” but I’m not sure many people think it is gay (in the homosexual sense). But maybe they think running shorts are?
  I used to wear lycra clothes for sportive activities (cycling, jogging, swimming) for 15 years now and never got any negative reaction. I think lycra fashion (cycling shorts and shirts, running and swimming tights) is well accepted for these activities. My interest in lycra expanded somewhat over the last 4 months, when I bought my first full body zentai – I own 8 now. Today I ventured out for the first time to do an outdoor shooting. Found a nice quiet location to shoot where only a few people passed by. They obviously tried to ignore me but I felt their gazes. But no negative reactions by now.

• How to make a really scary

  We have a lot of thinking about prosthetics. But it seems that I might already be using, and helping with 4 buddies up that day. And he did not really like any of the parts that I showed him to leave. The environment will be a mix and match of Halloween for most. There will be two witches (one in a “pilgrim” dress and the other with a hooded zentai suit) handing out candy on a porch filled with an obscene amount of baby dolls scary. The sidewalk leading to the porch will have a live scarecrow on one side and my son on the other. Zombie is the plan B for me (I’m a zombie last year). It was Damien (and occasionally wore a mask monster) when was 7 or more. I will post some pictures soon. It is great to mix and frightening.

  My son the same age …. like you I make costumes for the kid and you’re right, it is a boy thing, he always wants to gore something. A few years ago he was a businessman zombie and a zombie groom and last year a mad doctor who killed a patient (played by his sister). This costume was fine because he looked grim and frantic, scary costumes as much as the zombies before. Gory is not always scary. I tried to convince him to go as Sammy (one of my favorite characters in the horror film), but it was a no go …. this year he wants to be a mummy or something. Let us know what you come up with!

  In fact, you raise a good point of contact. It’s like the accessories made. If you’re going to get personal contact to go to your ophthalmologist. Mine was great. Had a personal contact list, but if not then you just give him the address of the site. Were it using the main eye doc for the film so the eyes without hurting. You may want to reconsider this particular pair of hands the devil. I bought the hands of the devil ha last year to prop a devil. They are big enough and you hold the posts inside. It could get annoying to have to take these for an amount of time. You can also not be able to open your hands to improve the scare. I can not see the YouTube video at work so I can not comment on the fit with the mask.

  I am a scary clown theme and last year my 11 year old daughter was the nephew of “tourist guide”. He was wearing a red catsuit and makeup satin clown that was rubbed off – much like the Joker. He’s scared the crap out of the youth in our party! So many people are afraid of clowns. If your son wants to gore, put a pretty face mask as a mask or make-up gore. It can lift the mask of cute to scare children. The guy, Michael Meyers in overalls and masks motionless in a corner back can be really scary. We had two guys in costumes grille last year, which hid from view and fear of more crap out of teenagers!

  I was lucky with a gargoyle. It seems to scare people, even when it is clear that I am a person. Put me in a cemetery scene and wait patiently to pop up, he made some good feedback. I think scarecrows scare people too. Scarecrows are cheap, can be really scary using a heavy wire similar to this one – of course you want to leave at least one eye visible. I would paint the skin around the eyes red, at least. If I expected to be in a better light, I would try to make it look like muscle. Perhaps an accessory like a scythe or a member broken? Even a crow dollar store “crushed and bleeding” in one hand people would freak.

• How I’m going to do the head part yet

  For our party this year we’re doing a theme of Hollyweird. I’m thinking of coming as Audrey Two, from Little Shop of Horrors. Just not quite sure how I’m going to do the head part yet? But I’m glad to figure out a cool black latex leggings to try! I’m usually pretty lame at thinking of interesting costumes. Our neighbor is coming as the woman from The Birds. She found a website where she bought a dozen black birds for cheap, and she’s also bought some crows. She’s going to plaster them on her zentai suit, with blood dripping from them, and I think try to rig one above her head as if it’s attacking her. Too fun!
  The theme for our party this year will most likely be Day of the Dead since it’s going to be Nov. 1. but at nighttime. So it will be Noche de los Muertos (night of the dead). I’m thinking I will be Frida Kahlo but dead, with the traditional skeleton face makeup worn for Dia de los Muertos. We usually try to dress up as a couple, so I’m not sure what Brian will do. I don’t dress up for Halloween day normally, because I have so much running around to do with setting up last minute details. But this year, I might dress up for the trick or treaters. Not sure what yet though.Brian is a big guy, about 6’2 300 lbs so he dresses up as something scary every year for the trick or treaters. With his size, it really scares the beejeezus out of the little ones. It’s hilarious. We give the little ones that seem really scared a big sized candy bar (like at the movies) if they have the courage to go up to him instead of me for candy. The fright just melts away when they get a big candy bar.
  When I went as a black widow I bought a pair of pretty spider earrings on ebay & a matching pendant which I turned into a choker. I bought a few spider brooches some diamante pewter & had them on my shoulder, arm etc. plus a spider ring. I made a pill box hat & had a black veil. Spider web dress and tights. I had lots of dark make up & red lipstick. This year I plan to be a grey lady ghost. Ghostly grey makeup, long grey wig, i bought two different types of grey material to make a long skirt & underskirt – and it will be ditressed. i bought this float top on ebay too. I’ll make it paler with talcum powder though.

• Hand-Made Female Grim Reaper and Sickle

  I read the discussion of women not having a “scary” green zentai suit and basically they are scantily clad, lace and shine … which is really not that bad. If the world was full of models for Victoria Secret runway, I bet there would be more smiles. But alas, it’s Halloween. Back to basics. What should I work? I am small, cute and have a pretty face. I can not do “sexy”, which is reserved for girls with cleavage exorbitant. So … scary? Well, I’ll try. In fantasy-land, (where I usually reside) which can make a girl bully? I spent the better part of the day wandering through the woods to find just the right size and look. After using a sponge dish washing and cleaning standard hardwood floor, it was clean and smooth, then I just spray varnish. I just bought a can of it and brushed … but the look I wanted was a mega can, and too much money for something I will probably never use again. This year I will participate in the evening with an Evil Red Riding Hood, and my sister, the Peacock, which closely resemble a beautiful Vegas Showgirl. I’m very excited to see both finished. Evil has a beautiful Red Floor-length, satin coat crushed, and the Peacock . Well, my mom is working on this costume. Will be exceptional. I must admit at first I really wanted to “glamor” of the Reaper. Maybe an animated version of purple and pearls and ribbons that adorn the sickle. But not this year. I personally prefer to put on my serious face and manic people. But I’m almost a bit of both works. What’s more frightening than death itself approach … and seduce you at the same time? Again … Why? Because I can. I am a pretty serious fan of Harry Potter, I do not care if you laugh, roll your eyes or giggle. I love Harry Potter. In Deathly Hallows, Death is beautiful, black wings, and in many depictions of the Grim Reaper, black wings are present. And just in case, I have a stick that I bought from Orlando Wizarding World of Harry Potter (Sirius Black’s wand in fact) and I hid in my dresses if someone one tries to curse me. I’ll be ready with Sempra septum. Nasty little bad luck. The wide blade still needs to be honed and polished. The blade is sharp and very deadly return, I assure you. Still need to be polite and I need to design a “good word” with which I will translate the Latin and transfer to the upper edge of the blade. Hope successfully. My original design had swirled that thing, but I think it would be more appropriate to the text that no one understands. Once the text is ready, I need to cut the tape painters (laboriously) and transfer to the polished blade. I could just have a shop cut vinyl letters, depending on how complex it becomes. Then strip off the bottom edge (as in the sketch) and spray paint the rest black metallic silver. Two-tone blade. The circles in the design will be cut. I need to notch staff, drag the slides in, and possibly spot weld them in place with small brackets, then wrap and cover with wire jewelry black. Hopefully everything works.

• falling victim

  If you’re like me, you were to finish the things that the market first Totters until this year. Have one of your zentai suit accessories or “falling victim” set and not set this year?

  I bought the Spirit Harvester prop, and it has never been out of the box due to time constraints. Which, I guess it’s cool, considering it may be new for next year. I also got a new pair Bluck great I have not had time to develop, and a “victim of a spider’s web” of Wal-Mart I did not open.
  A number of little things do not display this year, mostly put things in detail as strings, faux barbed wire, foam, etc.. I also have new things that have not been out for two years now because of time constraints. A few things have conspired to put me under the gun on Halloween day, namely the work of the day and bad weather during the week. But really, I’m the only one who knew. The amount of stuff that was there made quite an impression, even on me. And it’s close enough for jazz. There’s always next year to nail it! Yes I am guilty of forgetting something. I bought a bunch of lights landscaping Waymart had crackled glass globes in July. I just wanted the globes. I was going to use them in my decorating with some flashing LED to light the haunting. I put in a box on a shelf and when we were packing everything away, I saw the box sitting there.

  Well it gives me months to get these things so much that I can use next time. I never set up anything because we have too many things. In fact, I started serving some things that have not been used for years. No need to keep something that has not been used and never will again.
  I waited too long to start my tombstones and only two were finished with lettering. The rest was hastily locked gray dry so they can at least be set up remotely. I will definitely work on these throughout the next year, especially if I want to create the detail that many members have shown in their graves. I bought the fabric, but never built my Boogie Man size to my nightmare on the theme of bathroom (the bathroom downstairs has a shower that will be complete “Oogie lair”). Not much, since all of next year will be the theme of Halloween Nightmare Before Christmas and will be the perfect time for him. I never tell anyone what my plans are for the year, this so if I can not do something, nobody will know and no matter what I’m always “good home”.

  About 25% of my collection of blue catsuit accessories has not seen the night of Halloween. I have so much to do, and this year I have really bad back pain. I also forgot a few accessories in the basement, as my skeleton in a cage, my vampire Staggering was not ready, my body PVC accessories were not made, I was supposed to have some thematic SILENT HILL to haunt not have time to do anything to him a lot. Next year we start is in September instead of October. We learned our lesson this year. My son told me a couple of years, “Dad, you’re the only things missing that are not taken out.” And he’s right – they do not miss what they do not see. There is usually not enough out. As for this year, new things have been finished with minutes to spare, but ran out of time to correct some of the things broken in the last year I kept meaning to move. Note to self – make a list and check it.
